Borders

This photo was taken on a train trip at the Canadian border stop just outside of Skagway, Alaska.

I continually seem to find myself living near some border. In fact, this has been true for many in my family. My father was born in Missouri and my mother in Arkansas, yet their birthplaces are less than 50 miles apart. I grew up in Oklahoma within 20 miles of the Kansas border and even now, my siblings and I each live within an easy drive of a state border. I’ve lived in Michigan where only a short tunnel separates the city from our Canadian neighbors in Windsor and now find myself within 10 minutes of the bridges that separate Washington and Oregon.
